New Stars has a ranking system to provide more realistic roleplay and promote a sense of pride when your character reaches a high rank.
Mostly this does not affect roleplay, but there are a few rules around it.
If a cat is more than one rank above yours, your cat cannot win the fight alone. Young Apprentices will miss prey 50% of the time. You must roleplay your character realistically according to their age and rank. Young Kits cannot fight or resist any cat older than a Kit doing something to them. (Kidnapping, attacking, etc)
WARRIOR RANKS
Young Kit - All characters start as this. To progress to Kit, your character must be roleplayed in a post. This can be a post-birth topic, anything.
Kit - Is beginning to learn the basics of life in the wild, but has little knowledge, all of it being second-hand. For example, they will know what a mouse smells like (From the prey pile) and approximately what a badger looks like (From nursery tales), but they won’t know much, if anything, about hunting or fighting or Gatherings. To progress to Young Apprentice, your character must be roleplayed in a post and been alive for one real-time week.
Young Apprentice - Knows the basics of hunting and fighting, has not been to a Gathering yet. Knowledge of the world is still very limited. To progress to Apprentice, must have participated in a hunting or border patrol, must have been roleplayed for two weeks after earning Young Apprentice title, and must have had a formal training lesson.
Apprentice - Can defend him or herself against a warrior, even if he or she cannot win the fight. Has decent knowledge of the world, dependent on what he or she experienced. To progress to Newly Appointed Warrior, must have been roleplayed for two weeks after earning Apprentice title, must have been to a Gathering, must have participated in a battle, must have gone to the Moonstone, and must have participated in a hunting patrol.
Newly Appointed Warrior - Not much more than an apprentice. Is just beginning warrior duties, and compared to other warriors is inexperienced. To progress to Young Warrior, must have been a Newly Appointed Warrior for one week, and participated in a patrol of any type.
Young Warrior - Knows the basics of warriorship, and has a moderate level of experience, though they still have the energy and (usually) immaturity of a young cat. To progress to Warrior, must have been a Young Warrior for two weeks, gone to a Gathering, participated in a patrol of any type, and participated in a battle.
Warrior - Your average warrior. By now they have a good amount of experience, and can hold their own in almost any fight. They’re older, more mature, and have usually filled out in terms of muscle. To progress to Experienced Warrior, must have been a Warrior for one month, trained an apprentice to warriorhood, and participated in both a patrol and a battle.
Experienced Warrior - A top rank. They’re the oldest, fiercest, most experienced warriors in the Clan. You cannot rank up from here unless you are elected deputy or leader.
Deputy - No different from former rank, other than duties. Deputies take care of apprentice ceremonies. Does not change power. Cannot become deputy unless having trained an apprentice, but that is the only requirement.
Leader - The highest rank a cat can attain, only achievable by first becoming deputy, then the former leader retiring or losing their last life. Considered one rank above Experienced Warrior for battle purposes.
MEDICINE CAT RANKS: (Medicine cats are poor hunters, and will only win a fight with a cat one or more ranks below them.)
Young Medicine Cat Apprentice - Just beginning to learn basic herbs and how to heal. Cannot heal cats, simply sorts herbs and learns from their mentor. In order to progress to Medicine Cat Apprentice must have watched their mentor heal one cat, must have been to the Moonstone, and must have been a Young Medicine Cat Apprentice for two weeks.
Medicine Cat Apprentice - Knows basic herbs and healing. Can heal minor cuts, injuries, and sore throats. Cannot cure sickness or heal major injuries. In order to progress to Young Medicine Cat, must have been a Medicine Cat Apprentice for one month, been to the Moonstone, watched their mentor cure one sickness or major injury, and healed three cats (However minor).
Young Medicine Cat - Is learning how to heal on their own. Can cure most things, with the exceptions of poisoning, severe injuries, broken limbs, and Greencough. To progress to Medicine Cat, must have been a Young Medicine Cat for two weeks, been to the Moonstone, have healed one moderate injury, and one minor injury.
Medicine Cat - Has learned how to heal on their own. Can cure most things, with the exception of broken limbs. In order to progress to Experienced Medicine Cat, must have been a Medicine Cat for one month, healed three cats (However minor), assisted in one birth, been to the Moonstone, begun training an apprentice, and healed one sickness or major injury.
Experienced Medicine Cat - Top rank. Can cure almost anything.
ROGUE RANKS
Rogue Kit - A kitten. To rank up to Apprentice-Aged Rogue, must have been roleplayed for at least one week, and participated in one topic.
Apprentice-Aged Rogue - As strong as an Apprentice. To advance to Young Rogue, must have been roleplayed as an Apprentice-Aged Rogue for at least two weeks, fought one Clan cat (Whether they won or not doesn’t matter) and participated in one non-battle topic.
Young Rogue - As strong as a Young Warrior. To advance to Rogue, must have been a Young Rogue for two weeks, fought two Clan cats (must win one), and participated in one non-battle topic.
Rogue - As strong as a Warrior. To advance to Experienced Rogue, must have been a Rogue for one month, fought three Clan cats (must win two), and participated in two non-battle topics.
Experienced Rogue - As strong as an Experienced Warrior. Top rank.
Being a rogue leader has no effect on rank or power.
